Product Description
Fevicol SR 998 is a synthetic rubber-based industrial contact adhesive built to bond dissimilar materials — metal, glass, rubber, leather and PVC — where wood glues can't. It dries into a flexible, water- and ageing-resistant film in about 5 minutes, and is the standard choice across automotive, railway, shipbuilding and electrical industries.
Key Features
Bonds dissimilar substrates — metal, glass, rubber, leather, PVC, and fabric — in a single adhesive
- Dries to a flexible film resistant to water and ageing
- Fast dry time (around 5 minutes) with a 30-minute tack retention window
- Coverage of approximately 250-350 g/m² on non-porous substrates

How to Apply
- 1.Ventilate: Work in a well-ventilated area — SR 998 is a solvent-based industrial adhesive.
- 2.Prepare: Ensure both surfaces are clean, dry, and free of oil, dust, or loose coatings.
- 3.Apply: Brush or spread a thin, even coat of SR 998 onto both surfaces to be bonded.
- 4.Wait for tack: Allow the adhesive to become touch-dry — typically around 5 minutes — while staying within the 30-minute tack retention window.
- 5.Join & Press: Bring surfaces into contact and press firmly; as a contact adhesive, bond strength is largely immediate once surfaces meet correctly.

What is a 'contact adhesive,' and how is that different from Fevicol SH?
A contact adhesive like SR 998 is applied to both surfaces and allowed to dry to a tacky state before joining — once pressed together, the bond is immediate and very strong. PVA glues like Fevicol SH are applied to one or both wet surfaces, joined immediately, and then need clamping while they cure over hours.
Can SR 998 really bond metal to fabric or leather?
Yes — this cross-material versatility is its core strength, and it's specifically used across industries to join dissimilar substrates like painted metal, glass, leather, and PVC board that standard wood adhesives can't handle.
Is Fevicol SR 998 flammable or hazardous to use?
As a solvent-based industrial adhesive, it should be treated with standard solvent-adhesive precautions: work in a ventilated space, avoid ignition sources, and use appropriate PPE (gloves, eye protection).
How long do I have to join the surfaces once they're tacky?
The tack retention window is around 30 minutes, so plan your work to press surfaces together within that time after the initial 5-minute dry period.
What pack size is right for a workshop versus an industrial site?
1 L and 5 L suit workshops and smaller jobs; 30 L drums (and larger metal container/drum options) are aimed at industrial and manufacturing-scale use.
How much SR 998 do I need to cover a given area?
Coverage is approximately 250-350 g per square metre on non-porous substrates — plan quantities based on the total surface area of both sides being bonded.
Is SR 998 water and ageing resistant once cured?
Yes — it dries into a robust, flexible film specifically formulated to resist water exposure and ageing over time, which is why it's trusted in automotive, railway, and shipbuilding applications.
How does SR 998 differ from Fevicol HeatX?
Both are synthetic rubber contact adhesives, but HeatX is specifically engineered for high heat resistance (up to 170°C) on insulation and curved surfaces, while SR 998 is the more general-purpose industrial contact adhesive for bonding dissimilar materials without a specific heat-resistance requirement.
Can SR 998 be used for insulation ducting work?
Yes — it's used in the insulation industry to bond flexible elastomeric sheet or tube material to metal ducting, alongside its broader industrial bonding applications.
Is SR 998 suitable for a home DIY repair?
It can be for small cross-material repairs (like reattaching leather or rubber trim), but it's fundamentally an industrial-grade adhesive — for general home woodworking, Fevicol SH remains the simpler, more forgiving choice.
What causes a weak bond with a contact adhesive like SR 998?
The most common causes are joining the surfaces before they've reached the right tack, waiting too long past the tack retention window, uneven application, or insufficient pressure when pressing the surfaces together.
What thicknesses does Fevicol SR 998 come in?
Fevicol SR 998 is available in 25 L, 5 L, 2 L, 1 L, 500 ml, 200 ml, 100 ml.
